PEDRO@ohstpy.mps.ohio-state.edu (Pedro Saizar (614-292-7881)) (09/28/89)

Ooops. I noticed I didn't post this call for votes in here.
So here it is. A mass acknowledgment is coming up soon.
Stay tuned! Pedro.

*********************************************************************
*             CALL FOR VOTES:  SOC.CULTURE.LATIN-AMERICA            *
*********************************************************************

This is a call for votes to decide if there is enough interest to
create a new newsgroup to be called soc.culture.latin-america.

  1. CHARTER

The newsgroup will cover topics about Latin America, its people,
and its culture. The range of possible subjects is very broad,
so the user should decide in each case if his/her poster is more
appropriate for this newsgroup than any other. A lot of cross-
posting can be expected for this group.

  The newsgroup will be unmoderated.

We will not define explicitly here which countries are covered
by the word Latin America. The group is intended mainly as a mean
of communication and information among latinamericans and also for
non-latinos.

Additionally, the group can serve as a point of reunion to start
or locate national mailing lists, and to contact people in other
latin american countries with News and/or e-mail facilities.

The languaje is a matter of choice to each user, according to
his/her needs and the audience he/she is addressing. We strongly
suggest to indicate the languaje in the subject line and, if
the author considers it is worth doing so, to include a brief
summary in English for the benefit of those that would attempt
a translation.

  2. HOW TO VOTE

The voting period starts at 3:00 am GMT (12:00 am EDT),
September 21, 1989, and ends 3:00 am GMT, October 12, 1989.

  A vote is valid if:

  a) it is received within the specified period.

  b) it is sent to the following account:

     Internet: pedro@mps.ohio-state.EDU
     Bitnet: pedro@ohstpy

  c) it states CLEARLY you are voting YES or NO. Any comments or
questions will invalidate your vote. Please send separate mail
if you need more information. You may just indicate your vote
in the Subject line and send a blank letter. Please, indicate
your name in your vote.

  d) it is unique. Only one vote per computer account.

  e) you VOTE IN ENGLISH (the voting has to be checked by other
people).

You are voting for the proposal as it is. If you do not agree
with it, just vote no; do not state your reasons in your vote.

I will try to acknowledge each vote received, at least with
a replied empty message, and/or with a mass acknowledgment in
news.groups and news.announce.important. I will also try to
answer your questions. However, please, try to avoid sending
comments until the voting is over. We'll have plenty of time
to talk afterwards.

If you still want to comment on this, you may still post it
in news.groups or any relevant group, although that will not
change THIS proposal.

             #### PLEASE SEND YOUR VOTE !!! ####
