njs@uunet.UU.NET (Nicholas J. Simicich) (11/22/89)
This is the first call for votes on the group rec.sport.pro-wrestling. This group name was selected by a STV vote that was announced in news.groups and rec.sport.misc. The call for discussion used the group name rec.arts.wrestling, which proved not to be the name of choice. This will be an unmoderated group the charter of which will be: To discuss the "sport" of pro wrestling, as it occurs on TV and in arenas throughout the world. Rationale: There are now a fair number of wrestling postings in rec.sport.misc. However, they don't really fit in. The sports discussed there are generally "real" sports, whereas pro wrestling is an exhibition sport, and the athletes are as much actors as tumblers. This split would serve two purposes: It will save those of us who only want to read about pro-wrestling from huge kill files, and it will get us out of rec.sport.misc, where people who want to read about "real" sports will be able to remove wrestling from their kill files. How to vote: First choice: To vote yes, send mail to uunet!bywater!scifi!wrestle-yes or bywater!scifi!wrestle-yes@uunet.uu.net To vote no, send mail to uunet!bywater!scifi!wrestle-no or bywater!scifi!wrestle-no@uunet.uu.net Second choice: Send mail to me at any of the following addresses, expressed in the order of my preference: bywater!scifi!njs@uunet.uu.net uunet!bywater!scifi!njs njs@ibm.com njs@watson.bitnet,[also vnet] If you send mail to one of the above addresses, you will have to use a subject line that clearly indicates your preference, as a yes or no vote. The body of your mail (if any) should clearly state what your vote is to be, as, "I vote for the newsgroup as proposed." or "I vote against the newsgroup as proposed." If your vote is not clear, I will be forced to discard it. If you qualify your vote (I would have voted against it it if there was ferret wrestling) I will have to discard it as well. I will try to get email back to you, but.... Mail to wrestle-yes or wrestle-no will be presumed to be a clear vote for or against, no matter what the contents of the subject line or message body are. If you have already sent me mail indicating that you wanted to vote for the group, you will have to send me new mail. The guidelines do not permit me to count those votes. I may only count votes received during the voting period. IF YOU POST A VOTE, I CANNOT COUNT IT!! I can only count those votes I receive by email. I will attempt to ack votes individually. I will also post mass acks. Voting commences when you read this posting, and ends December 21, 1989, midnight EST (New York Time). I will post this call for votes once or twice more during the voting period. Vote early and often. :-) -- Nick Simicich --- uunet!bywater!scifi!njs --- njs@ibm.com (Internet)
