Call for discussion: soc.culture.polish
Recent developments in Eastern Europe have caught everyone off
guard. The countries of Eastern Europe are no longer the colonies of
the Soviet Empire and must determine their own course. Poland, most
notably, has emerged first with a non-communist government in Eastern
Europe. Poland, again, is leading the way in the area of drastic
economic reforms (The Balcerowicz Plan) that are designed to transform
the stagnant and corrupt planning economy to a free market capitalist
formula. The Balcerowicz Plan has just gone into effect, Jan 1st,
1990.
We would like to create a forum on UseNET where ideas
concerning the rapidly changing situation in Poland can be presented
and debated. We would like the forum, if created, be not only a
discussion of politics and economics of Poland. Anything else
concerning Poles, Poland, and anything Polish will be welcomed.
The language used in the discussion will be English and the
group will be unmoderated.
There currently exists a listserv based forum of a similar
profile (POLAND-L@UBVM.BITNET). However, the number of participants in
the discussion is reaching limits that are forcing us to seek a
generally wider platform. The group soc.culture.polish, if created,
will be linked with mailing list in order to provide this forum for
users with no UseNET access.
Remember, only discussions in news.groups will be considered.
The discussion period will last until January 28th, 1990.
