It's: - the Call For Votes on the creation of the newsgroup comp.binaries.acorn, and - the Call For Votes on the creation of the newsgroup comp.sources.acorn. PLEASE read all of this article before trying to cast a vote. NAME AND CHARTER comp.binaries.acorn moderated distribution of binaries for Acorn machines. comp.sources.acorn moderated distribution of sources for Acorn machines. MODERATION Alan Glover (AGlover@acorn.co.uk) has volunteered to moderate both groups. RATIONALE The stream of binaries flooding comp.sys.acorn has become too large (comp.sys.acorn is a discussion-only group: even a single binary is too much). Hence a comp.binaries.acorn newsgroup is called for. To ensure high quality this group shall be moderated. It seems normal for a binaries group to be accompanied by a sources group; hence a comp.sources.acorn seems to be called for as well. It too shall be moderated. It is unclear whether desktop applications sources with lots of binary resource files should be posted to a sources or binaries group. It is also unclear whether such sources should be excluded from the binaries group. From the discussion it appeared that all this is a matter of taste. It doesn't seem all that relevant. VOTING PERIOD The voting period will start on the day this article appears in news.announce.newgroups. The voting period will end at the end of the 21st day (GMT) since the voting started. HOW TO VOTE A valid vote is a line or sentence containing two key elements: - one or more newsgroup names (either `comp.binaries.acorn' or `comp.sources.acorn' or both). - whether you vote for or against the creation of those newsgroups. A vote which does not contain both elements is not valid and will be ignored without notice. It is encouraged to vote on both newsgroups. It is allowed to send more than one valid vote as long as a previous valid vote on a newsgroup is not duplicated or contradicted (in which case the original vote holds and any duplicate or contradiction is ignored without notice). Mail your votes to rcpieter@win.tue.nl. HOW TO VOTE (REALLY) Send me (rcpieter@win.tue.nl) a mail containing the following: comp.binaries.acorn: <VOTE> comp.sources.acorn: <VOTE> where `<VOTE>' should be substituted by `for', `against' or something similar. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I will post intermediate mass acknowledgements to comp.sys.acorn and news.groups a few times. AUTHOR Tiggr (rcpieter@win.tue.nl)
