[comp.sys.mips] BSD diff bug

bin@primate.wisc.edu (Brain in Neutral) (07/29/89)

The BSD diff appears to have some incorrect pathnames compiled into it.

% which diff
/usr/bsd43/bin/diff

% diff -r /bsd43 /bsd43
/n/barney/pkg2/umips-v/mips53.4.0/bsd43/bin/diff: No such file or directory
/n/barney/pkg2/umips-v/mips53.4.0/bsd43/bin/diff: No such file or directory

% strings /usr/bsd43/bin/diff | head -5
Infinity
"wJ1N
/n/barney/pkg2/umips-v/mips53.4.0/bsd43/usr/lib/diffh
/n/barney/pkg2/umips-v/mips53.4.0/bsd43/bin/diff
/bsd43/bin/pr

Evidently it's trying to exec the wrong thing.
This is for RISC/os 4.0 on a MIPS M/120.

Indeed it is broken, but we found it too late to fix the release, but early
enough to fix the documentation.

See page 33 of the Software Binary Release Notes for RISC/os 4.00.
