wahr@ztivax.UUCP (Alfons Wahr) (12/06/89)
Since oktober '89 I am system administrator of a M/120 with RiscOS 4.0. The machine runs quite well, but up to now I didn't succeed in installing UUCP on ethernet. The description in the System Administrator's Guide Vol.I doesn't seem to apply, or did I just forget something ? Since people at Mips Computer Systems refused to help me, has anyone else any idea what's wrong ? Now, here is my (unsuccessful) installation according to the handbook: * /etc/services * * Verify that the following line exists (and is not commented out with * a preceding "#") in /etc/services: * * uucp 540/tcp uucpd # uucp daemon Verification o.k. * /etc/inetd.conf * * Verify that the following line exists (and is not commented out with * a preceding "#") in /etc/inetd.conf: * * uucpd stream tcp nowait root /usr/etc/uucpd uucpd Verification o.k. * /usr/lib/uucp/Devices * * Verify that the following line exists (and is not commented out with * a preceding "#") in /usr/lib/uucp/Devices: * * TCP - 0 Any TCP "" Using the above pattern doesn't work, neither does that one proposed in /usr/lib/uucp/Devices itself: TCP UNIX 0 Any TCP "" * /usr/lib/uucp/Systems * * Verify that the following line exists (and is not commented out with * a preceding "#") in /usr/lib/uucp/Systems: * * hostname ANY TCP - - ogin:--ogin login word: password My corresponding line is (of course, login and Password removed): ztivax Any TCP - - \D\n ogin:-\n-ogin: ** assword: ** If I now try to connect to ztivax via cu, I'll get the following message: $ cu ztivax $ Connect failed: CAN'T ACCESS DEVICE I appreciate ANY comment, especially if it contains some good idea. Please post to Usenet or email me directly, if you like (wahr@ztivax.siemens.com). Thanx. Roland Ernst Siemens ZFE Munic (West Germany)
