Using f77 version 2.0 we have not been able to lock a file when we open it.
These is a SHARED option to allow other programs to read the file
but the files it seems are always in SHARED. How can we specify
that we want the file locked to other users ?

The SHARED option is a no-op provided for compatibility with VMS source decks.
