We had this problem using subprocesses spawned from a detached process. After calling Colorado they eventually called back saying they had duplicated your symptoms. Avoid ALLOCATEing the drive and it should work OK. An SPR has been submitted by TSC, except they did it LOW PRIORITY! A related problem is the allocation of a drive by a deleted process. This had appeared in VMS 3.1 or 3.2, was fixed, and appeared again. There is a fix without rebooting -- SET DEV /NOAVAIL then /AVAIL. If MOUNTed, do a DISM/ABORT first. --John
