I am looking for information about the extent to which an LN03 laser printer emulates an LA100 matrix printer. The application I have in mind is to be able to print the screen of a VAXstation (in this case, a microVAX II). The documentation for the VAXstation says that an LA100 is necessary to print the screen. The LN03 advertisements I have read report that the LN03 emulates both an LA100 and an LQP03 (or is that 02?). Does anyone have any info about the LN03 they would like to share? I'll summarize and post to some appropriate news- group (net.bizarre?). Thank you all, Todd Aven (manager%umdhep.bitnet@wiscvm.arpa)

I have an LN03. According to the manual it is to some extent compatioble with LQP02, LQP03, LN01 and LA100. Appendix F of the LN03 Programmers Reference Manual (badly written, not to DEC standard) has a cross-refernce list. Fro it I can see that LN03 does not fully emulte any of the other printers. It is fairly compatible with LQP03 and LA100 regarding escape sequnecies for graphics. However, there are diffenrces (I estimate from a breif glance that 80 - 90 % of the LQP03 and/or LA100 codes are implemented on the LN03). So it MAY work, depending of what codes your program produce. (some codes like "change from english to swedish character set " obviously doesn't matter to much if they differ)
