[comp.sys.mips] RiscOS 4.3 /stand/format parameters???

fraserr@frc.frc.maf.govt.nz (Robert Fraser) (08/31/90)

Hi,

We have recently bought some Maxtor 8760 SCSI disks (768 Mb unformatted) for
our MIPS M/120s. When I went to format one of them I ran into the
/stand/format program (under RiscOS 4.3), which seems to have very little
documentation associated with it.

I guessed most of the parameters I didn't know, and it still seemed to work
OK, but I would like to know what they actually are, or if they even apply to
SCSI disks.

I would very much appreciate it if anybody would tell me either reasonable
values for the following, or how to work them out from the technical specs.

SECTOR SKEW
GAP 1
GAP 2
SECTOR INTERLEAVE
MILLISECONDS PER WORD
MAXIMUM DEFECTS BIT LENGTHS
MAXIMUM NUMBER DEFECTIVE TRACKS
MAXIMUM NUMBER DEFECTS
SECTOR SLIPPING
SECTOR FORWARDING
TRACK FORWARDING

Please send any replies by email.
