[comp.sys.mips] Adding second exabyte to M/120

teuscher@physics.utoronto.ca (Richard Teuscher) (11/13/90)

Has anyone added a second exabyte to the MIPS M/120?

On our system, exabyte 0 is unit 5, and exabyte 1 is set to unit 3.
After typing:

mknod /dev/rmt/rwex1 c 16 48

(48 = minor number for unit 3 from /dev/scsi), rebooting and then trying

mt -f /dev/rmt/rwex1 status we get the error 'no such device.'

Configuring with different unit numbers gives the same error. The second
exabyte works correctly when connected alone as unit 5. Both exabytes are
set with switches 1..4 on, 5..8 off, as suggested in the release notes.

Currently we have disconnected the internal tape drive (unit 6) and are using
the second exabyte as unit 6.

Has anyone else run into this problem?
