We just converted to 4.2 and have had lots of little problems including: o JNET is broken. I am told that there is a patch to JNET 1.2 that will fix this, we are getting it. o VI is broken. The image that worked just fine on 4.1, now goes crazy when we go into OPEN mode. o Logical name table space is "smaller". I imagine that what actually happens is that logical name table entries are larger. As a fix, we are putting more of the symbols into group logical name tables and freeing up process dynamic memory. I still want to know how to increase this value. o Autoconfig played with several sysgen parameters, setting them to values too low. A major problem is that performance (subjectively) has gone way down. I've tried all of the things that I used to do on 3.x to increase performance on 4.2 and have gotten only marginal improvements. Is there something that I should do that is new with 4.2? Subjectively, there wasn't much of a change (after tuning) going from 3.7 to 4.0, little change from 4.0 to 4.1, but a large change from 4.1 to 4.2. The system is almost unusable with 25 users when in the past we could handle over 40 without much strain. Does anyone know what is going on? Marty Sasaki (sasaki@harvard)
