/bsd43/bin/lpd occasionally hangs up on our M/2000 (RiscOS 4.51), logging "bind: address already in use" messages to syslogd. User's requests then accumulate in the print queues, as shown by "stat" in lpc, yet I can't get the queues unstuck by "lpc restart all", and have to resort to killing the daemon and restarting it. (The pid for the daemons in the lock files always refer to processes which are no longer running, BTW). The queues are all on remote machines (some on VMS Vaxes, which are running CMU/Tek TCP/IP), and this problem seems to have appeared since I installed 4.51. Has anyone seen this situation? better still, have you fixed it? I'm not running a nameserver, if that's what "bind" in the error message refers to; I've checked /etc/vis.conf, and the system shouldn't be trying to contact one. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. --dave
