Recently we found out where much of our file system space was going -- into files with names of the form .nfs8765 which are invisible to users who don't look for invisibles. They tend to be fairly large files. We have found that you can generate them by running f77 and they correspond in size to the a.out file. We run a central machine as an NFS server disk farm and most users run on other machines and get their files from the server if that helps. Can anybody tell me how these get created and if we can shut them off at the source. Right now, we are killing them post facto. Thanks -- Richard R.
