We have a strange problem which just started on our M/120 system. The system includes a QIC120 tape drive, which we have been using for archiving of various data. We do this by using the following sequence: mt -f /dev/rmt/Q120n-0 fsf [#] tar cvf /dev/rmt/Q120n-0 [file] mt rewind Up until this Sunday, everything went OK. Of course, using this method one must keep careful track of what is on the tape, both contents and size of each record. Now the problem. We tried to use this last weekend on an existing archive, and we got a total failure. The tape comes to the end of the record, and then just hangs. This doesn't do the same thing on our RX2030 systems. We can make multiple records on the M/120 without rewinding, but as soon as the tape is rewind, the logical end of the tape is lost. However, this tape is still readable/writable on a RX2030, but there seems to be two end of record marks at the end of the last record created by the M/120. Any help is greatly appreciated, since we really need to be able to use this facility. -- Gilbert Lee Huppert (glee@athena.mit.edu) Materials Etching Technology Laboratory
