[comp.sys.mips] RISC/os 4.52

han@eemips.tamu.edu (Kyongho Han) (05/04/91)

Hi,

We have Mips machines (RC3230 and RC3240) and RISC/os 4.51 is running.
Some people posted compaints about RISC/os 4.52.
I want to know how is your machines under 4.52.
I will upgrade my machines after I hear from other people.
Just let me know your machines' status.
I had some trouble with NFS under 4.52 and I rolled back to 4.51.
Anybody who has some opinion about 4.52, just give me idea.

4.52 is fine here -- with one BIG exception.

rpc.lockd (from the patch tape) is big-time broken. It has a huge memory
leak in it which causes it to grow it's working set until it consumes all
available memory.

BOTH the original 4.52 and the "patched" 4.52 rpc.lockd have this problem.

This, needless to say, requires kills and restarts of the daemon on a
regular basis. NOT NICE.

If and when MIPS gets that fixed they'll have it nailed.

In general, I love MIPS's engineering job on this stuff. They just dropped
the ball here on this one item.
