We have the following problem with our system (consisting of a MIPS RC3240 server and a MIPS RS2030 workstation: There was some power glitch and both systems went down, and refused to come back up. The server has a tape-drive (built in), and after much struggling we were able to reboot off backup tapes. However the workstation (without a tape drive) does not come back up. We were told (by MIPS service) that we could boot off the server using the ethernet connection. Unfortunately we have not been able to get the damn thing going. Request to kind souls out there: 1) can you please e-mail/post the procedure for booting off ethernet ? since the server went down too, we are apprehensive that the ethernet set-up might be screwed too. so, if possible, please tell me how the server should be set up too. Thanking you in anticipation, Ramani Duraiswami

You will need the RISC/os binary release tapes to do this. Refer to the RISC/os 4.50 Binary Release notes on the procedure to use. You should find the release notes online in the /usr/pkg/rn directory on the 3240. ( the same procedure applies if you are using 4.50, 4.51 or 4.52 tapes ) Let me know if you want the release notes emailed. -- --trevc-- Trevor Cotton, Sustaining Engineering, MIPS Computer Systems Inc.
