<go ahead bug...make my day> (flame) -- Oh no. If we don't rush headlong down the path toward more-energy- no-matter-what-the-cost the starving masses will never get ahead. (rebuttal) -- There is nothing in a no-growth-in-GNP economy that dictates that the economy will remain static. It just means that the cost production forgone will have to be considered in the aggregate decision of what products to produce. Those products that are least needed will no longer be produced. As the situation evolves (if you believe in evolution...but that's a different newsgroup) the total mix of products will continue to change as peoples needs and wants change. There will still be the same opportunities for innovative products to enter the marketplace. In a certain sense we can even see a no-growth economy as beneficual, since it improves efficiency by flushing marginal products out of the market. Lets also consider a constant-GNP economy under the assumption of a declining population... -- Kurt Guntheroth John Fluke Mfg.
