We recently purchased an HP LJ III printer with 3 Mb of Ram and a PostScript cartridge
installed. I have been trying to connect it up to our MIPS RC2030. I have it connected
through the parallel interface on the workstation as well as the printer. When I try
to send printing commands to the printer through /dev/lp, it registers the fact that
some data is being sent over, but then it does nothing. I am running the Berkeley
lpd and using lpr to print the files. The same happens when I try to print using the
SysV lp with the lpadmin running. In the latter case, I tried to use the interface
for hp printers that is in /usr/spool/lp/model, but still it did not work.
The entry for lp in /etc/printcap looks like this:
lp|lp1|Our Line Printer, A426:\
:LO=Epson,EQuad,A-426,CASL:\
:lp=/dev/lp:\
:sh:\
:sd=/usr/spool/lpd/lp:\
:lf=/usr/spool/lpd/lp/log:\
:af=/usr/spool/lpd/lp/acct:\
:ty=psc
Is there something else that needs to be done to configure the printer for use
with the RC2030 ? When I used the same configuration with an IBM proprinter
( a dot matrix printer) it seems to work fine. Has someone installed HP printers
for use with MIPS machines ? Any help would be appreciated.
