[news.newusers.questions] which newsgroup to post to

mef@dalek.silvlis.com (Mary Ellen Foley) (08/18/89)

I've looked through all of the groups in my .newsrc file, both
subscribed and unsubscribed, and I don't know which group to send
this question to. Rather than be flamed for sending it to an
inappropriate group, I'm asking for advice here, as to which
group I should post to. Don't flame me for that, I'm not
flameproof.

I am looking for a copy of a book called "The Algorithm Writer's
Guide", by Doris Wheatley. It is no longer in print, and all 5
copies I have located in my county library system have been
stolen from the shelves.

I want to ask if anybody has it, particularly anybody in the
SF Bay Area, who is willing to let a stranger borrow it. Can
someone please tell me if there is a news group which would
be appropriate for such a request?

Don't worry - you came to the right place - anyone flaming *anyone*
here will be taken to one side, and beaten senseless by those of
us who are flameproof 8-)

Well - I'd guess that the best place to ask for this is in misc.wanted.
Don't be fooled by the fact that you can't find something in your .newsrc
file - that only lists groups that you are, or at some time have been,
subscribed to. To get a list of *all* available newsgroups - try typing
'l' (thats a lower case 'L') at an rn prompt (I assume you're using rn 'cos
I don't know how to do it with other newsreaders).

Then again, it's just possible that you don't get misc.wanted at your site.
If this is the case - drop me a line by email - I'd be glad to post a
request for you.
