Actually given the high speed backbone links and Internet short cuts these days, I'm not so sure that Joe.Small.User shouldn't just say "bighost!weirdsys" when he has to reach "weirdsys" and hasn't a clue how. It's got to be cheaper for the net overall than running through two or three failed attempts at hand routing, where smaller fry pay the freight for both the tries and the bounces. What you don't want to do is route lots of stuff through a host you're not supporting just out of laziness' sake. UUNET acts as my omniscient rerouter but I pay $US for the privilege.
