This is an addendum to my previous note. After posting my note, I realized that I did receive some patches back in June. I followed the instructions that came with the new programs, installed them, restarted JNET and nothing changed. (Surprise!) We have a small problem, other sites at Harvard have had larger problems. One site has the problem that when they do anything with JNET, the system crashes. I would strongly suggest that JNET sites not convert to 4.2 until they hear from someone they trust that JNET works. If we didn't have so much work invested in 4.2, I would go back to 4.1 (or even 3.7). Marty Sasaki (sasaki@harvard)

Could someone elaborate on the problems of running the JNET software under VMS 4.2? We put up 4.2 last week (you know, the suckers that lost 550 files off the system disk) and have seen no indication of it not working. This is version 1.x, not 2.0 JNET. Thanks much for any info. Joiner announced that jnet would not work under 4.2 due to changes in the rtl. Jnet 2.0 (the release version) will work, and the beta sites should be shortly getting the beta version that works. 2.0 is due out in the beginning of October the last I heard. If you are a licensed jnet customer, contact JNET@WISCPSLB.BITNET if you are having troubles, and maybe they can expedite delivery of a working system to you. I've been a beta site for jnet since the beginning, and i've been really impressed with the customer support. -Ron Jarrell VA Tech Disclaimer: I do not work for Joiner Associates, nor have any connection with jnet (tm) product development other than as a beta site.
