I seem to have a problem posting an article or followup to a moderated group.
If the group is not moderated, I seem to have no problem.
1. I am assuming that in a moderated group the "backbone" listed in
LIBDIR/mailpaths is used to mail to the moderator. Upon inspection of
postnews.c I found the "inews.h" call. Looking through inews.c it looked
fairly straight-forward. Plenty of xerror() stuff to log a problem.
Yet, the errlog and log files are empty after the postnews failure.
(Yea, the LIBDIR directory is 755 and errlog and log are mode 666),
even though inews is setuid news.)
2. Postnews fails with a "Article not posted - exit status 11".
3. I am using news B 2.11 1/24/89, patchlevel 17 which I downloaded from
osu-cis. I have smail 2.5 installed as well as pathalias database.
4. My mailpaths looks like this:
backbone adelphi!bnlux0!sbcs!philabs!%s
internet %s
the rest of the file has lines of the form: newsgroup moderator
I am not lazy, but I am sure it is something I probably have set up
inproperly, however I have read the install manual cover to cover several
times. I am also sure there is an old news pro out there can save me a lot of
debug time.

Also, This is my first posting, and I am a bit bewildered over this flame
stuff. Why do so many people waste so much bandwith on it?
I notice most of the time they serve no purpose, and I resent having to
read them. How about we have a junk.waste.of.time.flame group?
flame over a posting, flame over a flaming, flame about a flaming over a flame...
