I have posted a request for help twice now in comp.newusers.questions. Not to get any acknowledgement, or even a piece of email is making me start to wonder about my postings to unmoderated groups also. If noone knows the solution to my problem, can some people local to NY please send me email stating you are getting the posting. (Boy, I hope didn't just open a can of worms). System: SCO XENIX 386 2.3.1, News 2.11.17. My problem: When posting to moderated groups postnews states it completes normally as if it were an unmoderated group. I make the assumption that since my mailpaths file has as its first line the "backbone" site, it should mail the request to backbonesite!moderated-group-posted-to. This is not happening. After the postnews completes there is no queued mail to backbone site. If anyone has experienced this problem before, please email me. The best address to get me at is markd@adelphi. If I am not in your paths (Which adelphi should be), try philabs!sbcs!bnlux0!adelphi!promark!mark. Thanks in advance -- Adelphi University, Garden City, NY 11530 (516) 663-1170 Department of Mathematics and Computer Science markd@adelphi.UUCP or mark@promark.UUCP UUCP: ...philabs!sbcs!bnlux0!adelphi!markd

I hope you meant "news.newusers.questions". If not, that explains one
problem: there is no newsgroup comp.newusers.questions (unless it is
a local group).

Posting to moderated and unmoderated newsgroups are different things.
Posting to an unmoderated newsgroup just gets your posting added to
the news files and then sent out to your news neighbors; posting to a
moderated newsgroup, if it works at all, gets your message mailed to
the moderator who then posts it for you. Generally, these fail in
very different ways.
Unfortunately, there isn't enough information in your original
posting for me to tell what is going on. You mentioned your mailpaths
file and said that it has the backbone site. Does the line look like:
backbone path-to-backbone-site!%s
If so, that is OK. Or, if you have a smart mailer it might just be:
backbone backbone-site!%s
Something else to look for: are these mail messages perhaps going
somewhere else? Like into a mailbox?
Other than those hints, I haven't any idea what is going wrong.
One other point: this question really should have been posted in
news.software.b. That is where you are most likely to get useful help.
Why not post it there?
