[news.newusers.questions] But what about the next quake?

gt@hpfcmgw.HP.COM (George Tatge) (10/20/89)

I am looking for a description of USENET that would be appropriate to
give to someone who has absolutly no idea as to what it could be. I
have been asked to help describe it to new users and I figgured I would
see if someone has written such a description already.

I have already looked through the monthly info postings and didn't see
anything that is really appropriate for people who didn't already have
some idea of what USENET is.

So, if you have written a description of USENET [for a proposal or
something] that might be used as a simple introduction to the concepts
of USENET, like how messages are propagated and such, in lay-english.
Please mail me a copy. I will summarize all of the messag never had
any trouble with telnet numbers. There are thousands of phones at
HP alone which are not subject to the switching overload of millions
of relatives trying to call into the area.

Anyway, I know there would be lots of problems to solve, but probably
not impossible ones. The savings in human life and property might
be tremendous given an even more devastating quake.
