[news.newusers.questions] Search new articles in news

goldsten@m.cs.uiuc.edu (10/26/89)

I would like to set it up so that when I enter certain newsgroups
I kill all new articles except for those containing certain strings.
I tried the following in a KILL file

/^/j
/arthur/a:m

The problem with this is that after junking all the new articles it
searches every article for the string "arthur" instead of just the
new ones.

Thanks for your help,
Arthur

There is no way to do this (in RN) in one step with a kill file. What
you want to do is this. Set up your kill file with the following line:

/keyword/a:M	(note the capital...it's critical)

Then, when the kill file finishes searching, go into the group and "c" to
catch up. The articles marked in the kill file will then return.
