[news.newusers.questions] Save rn-msgs in a file

pmk@cip-s01.informatik.rwth-aachen.de (Michael Keukert) (10/25/89)

I can spent very little time on "my" sun, so I'm looking for a way to
save all the articles of different newsgroups automatically in a
file so I can transfer it via FTP to an disk an read it at my own
computer at home.
I use RN to read news. The solution to my problem should save for example
the messages in comp.lang.pascal in a file named pascal.txt, all the
new news in comp.periphs.printers in a file named printers.txt, ...

Is there any way?

The following command worked ok for me:

	| cat > `basename %c`.txt

which could easily be made into an rn macro.

--Ed

(easily, I mean if you know how to make rn macros, which is beyond
the scope of this message)

Once in the newsgroup say for example:

100-200:s pascal.txt

This will save articles 100 through 200 appended together to the file
pascal.txt.

For more information, use the h command in rn (RTFM).
