While reading the net I've come across references to mailing lists that seem to be "automatic" -- that is, you can send mail to listname@site and it is forwarded, I assume without the need for specific action by the listkeeper, to all the people on the list. When you receive mail via such a list, all you see in the header is the list name, not all the addresses on the list. If you reply to such a list with the R utility, your reply gets sent to everyone on the list. Have I got the workings of this right? And if I do, can someone tell me how to set up such a list, or point me to the proper documentation? I have documentation that tells me how to set up a simple local mailing list via the alias command, but this doesn't seem to work quite the same way. For one thing, all the addressees appear in the header, which could get awkward if the list is large. From article <5992@lindy.Stanford.EDU>, by jon@lindy.Stanford.EDU (Jon Corelis): [Asks question about starting a mailing list] If you haven't already done so, subscribe to news.announce.newusers. About once per month a whole bunch of articles go out over that group which contain a wealth of information for the new user which, IMHO, should be required reading for the new user (after all, that's why it's there...). Included in that bunch of articles are a couple relating to mailing lists. Once you've got everything set in your mind as to what you want to do, you'll need the assistance of your SysAdmin in order to set things up properly.
