Well, I have this problem. Could somebody help ? In reply to an article, I tried posting my response. I got a message : "inews : ...... (user) has more text than new text", or something like that, and my article was rejected and appended to dead.article. What does this mean? I tried various things, including writing into a file and trying to post that. Didn't work. I edited the file to shorten it, so that it included just my response (no references). It worked fine ! What's wrong ? Please e-mail responses. Thanks in advance.

It's a good guideline to trim as much unnecessary text as possible from a message that you're quoting (as I did with yours). The rest of us on the net have already read the original message, so all that's really necessary is that you remind us of it. Take a look at the message you're quoting and try to trim the fat. We don't really need to see the other guy's .signature *again*. If you're replying to one of his many points, you needn't include all of them with your reply. For that matter, it's often not necessary to include his whole argument. Much of the time, it's quite sufficient to just include enough to jog our memories. As I said, 99% of the people reading your reply have already read the message you're replying to. Yes, there are times when it's useful to include more quotation than new message. In those situations, I suspect you need to either use a different mailer or do some heavy-duty kludging to fool the mailer you're using. Yes, it's a hassle. It's supposed to be. :-) -- ---------------------------------------------------+--------------------------- If you're not part of the solution, you must be | Steve King (708) 991-8056 part of the precipitate. | ...uunet!motcid!king | ...ddsw1!palnet!stevek
