[news.newusers.questions] Environment variables and rn

mkuch@watcsc.waterloo.edu (Murray S. Kucherawy) (01/12/90)

"rn" has a feature that I am finding a real turn-off.

When I save an article using "s filename" from, say, comp.os.vms, it
will create the directory /u/mkuch/News/comp/os/vms/<article-number>.
Typing paths that long, or a series of "cd" commands, I find
very annoying (but that's just personal preference). Is there
a way to make it save to my login directory? I tried putting
a line like this in my .login file:

setenv SAVEDIR "/u/mkuch"

but it appears that rn ignores this, while similar lines in my .login
used to change my full name and organization will actually work,
and are recognized by rn.

Comments? Suggestions?
