From: stew@harvard.ARPA (Stew Rubenstein) Has anyone else had trouble with large mail messages under the VMS V4 mail program? It seems that if you mail a large file, it refuses to read or extract it, saying that a 29,xxx byte record is too large for its buffer, or somesuch. Several of the arpanet digests frequently fall into this category. Are there any alternatives? I would dearly love to hear of a mail program that runs under VMS V4, that has decently documented network hooks, and that is RFC 822 compatible. I would love it even more if it didn't cost anything, but I'll try to wring some bucks out for anything that fits the first three requirements. Anybody??? Stew rubenstein@harvard P.S. Please keep your answers under 29,000 characters!

From: sasaki@harvard.ARPA (Marty Sasaki) The software tools mail system, written by Joe Sventek uses SMTP and is an alternative to VMS Mail. Boston University uses it and communicates out over bitnet, and UUCP (maybe ARPA too?). It even works over DECNET. Marty Sasaki (sasaki@harvard)
