[news.newusers.questions] Bnews2.11/SPOOLNEWS - Why TWO "rnews -S -p XXX..." running?

gaeta@pacs.picker.com (jay gaeta) (03/17/91)

I have set up Bnews 2.11 to "SPOOLNEWS" (Get the feed, unbatch files later).
I am trying to figure out why my system gets so slow during unbatching. I
have set up a crontab entry to run "rnews -U" approximately one hour after
my system Polls for a feed. When I check to see how it is going (with ps),
this is what I see:

    root 22529 77 0 08:13:00 ? 0:00 sh -c /usr/bin/rnews -U
    root 22530 22529 0 08:13:00 ? 0:00 /usr/bin/rnews -U
    root 24040 22530 36 10:19:15 ? 0:00 rnews -S -p 910313105657a0
    root 24079 24040 8 10:22:42 ? 0:00 rnews -S -p 910313105657a0

I have no explanation as to why there are TWO "rnews -U" and TWO
"rnews -S -p XXXXXXXXXXXXXX" running... It just does not look right.
The documentation in this area is to say the least "sparse". I will
look at the sources, but I can't help but feel that I am repeating
the steps along a well traveled path, and that someone else has
already figured it out...
