[gnu.misc.discuss] Copyleft & Distribution

grunwald@flute.cs.uiuc.edu (Dirk Grunwald) (07/27/89)

Several people have stated that, if you distribute a file linked with
e.g., a copyleft library, then you must distribute your source to
anyone who asks for it.

Reading the Copyleft shows this to not be true; you must only
distribute it to people to whom you distribute the binary files.

From my understanding, you can still charge for the binary files and
distribution costs of the source. You can also charge for
installation, maintaince, documentation and training.

Is all of this correct? I only want an answer from Len or someone at FSF
with a clear understanding of this, not endless chatter.
