[gnu.misc.discuss] What is needed before a complete FSF environment is available?

nagle@well.UUCP (John Nagle) (07/27/89)

How close is the goal of releasing a software environment which
requires no proprietary software to operate? By this I mean you take a
bare machine, preferably with no proprietary ROMs, boot up with totally
non-proprietary software, and have a set of facilities considered
reasonable by present standards.

When will the GNU kernal be available (or is it already?) I just read the
gnu manifesto and I was curious.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Steve
