Being new to this news group, please forgive me if this topic has been discussed before: Are there any plans to convert emacs lisp into a Common Lisp implementation? As far as I can tell, emacs lisp is the most portable version of lisp that I know of. If it could be converted into CommonLisp, it could become the most portable version of CL around also. Even though most of the CL implementations are reasonably faithful, their applications are rarely portable. Case in point, CLUE, which is supposed to be portable user interface toolkit, only works on a few CL implementations. Given the current standards of quality and portability FSF has set, the Lisp community could greatly benefit from a GNU Common Lisp. Also, is there a document that explains how to debug emacs lisp programs?
