I'm trying to connect a Smartmodem 1200 (first mistake) to a uVAX via a dhv-11 (second mistake) and having problems. Here are the symptoms: 1. I place a call to the telephone line that the modem is connected to. 2. The modem asserts carrier. 3. VMS asserts data terminal ready. 4. VMS removes data terminal ready for a few seconds. 5. This causes my phone call to hang up. 6. VMS asserts data terminal ready. Anybody got any ideas? The same Smartmodem works as expected when connected to a VAX-11/780 via a DZ-11. Marty Sasaki

I think you need to assert CTS (pin 5) also. See page 8-17 of the I/O User's ref manual, part 1. There's a flowchart of how the terminal driver handles the signals. You should also be sure that MODEM is set for the the line. You may also want to pass the RING signal from the modem to the port, and set sysgen symbol TTY_DIALTYPE to 2. Of course, this affects all your other lines also, so you should make sure all your other lines will assert RING also. Pages 8-12 and 8-13 of the same manual lists all the signals that are used and who should assert them. Mike

Thanks for the info. I will check things out. We made up a 25 bin cable. Modem was set. I hope I will find things. Thanks for the page numbers and all of that. Your posting shows a lot of effort. It is appreciated. Marty Sasaki
