Help! I'm having a very bizarre problem this morning with news V5.8a. Our
system went down last night with a power failure during (I think) a news
skim operation. This morning when users try running news they get:
$ news
%RMS-E-PRV, insufficient priviledge or file protection violation
%RMS-F-IFI, invalide internal file identifier
$
The funny thing is the user NEWS (who owns all the news trees and has the
news manager privs) and the user SYSTEM (who also has manager privs) can
run news without any problems at all! Oh yes, news is installed correctly,
logicals are defined, files are all protected ok, and so on. I'm currently
running a skim operation in hopes of resolving the problem.
I have run into this problem before with v5.0 (I think) and had to back out
of current news.items/groups, etc. files to resolve the problem. I'd rather
not do that (of course). If anyone has any ideas about what's going on I'd
appreciate the help.

I was mistaken, this was the first reboot since news had been installed and
my startup procedures had a typo. Sorry for the scare.
