Whenever I use the UPDATE command, it changes the DIRECTORY status from REGISTER to ALL. Is this the intended behavior, or is this a bug? Has anyone else noticed this? +-------------------+-------------------------------------+------------------+ | Bob Sloane \Internet: SLOANE@KUHUB.CC.UKANS.EDU/Anything I said is | | Computer Center \ BITNET: SLOANE@UKANVAX.BITNET / my opinion, not my | | University of Kansas\ AT&T: (913) 864-0444 / employer's. | +-----------------------+-----------------------------+----------------------+

I've noticed this too, since 5.7, but never said anything about it. :-) ---------------------------------+-------------------------------------------- Tim Russell, Computer Operator | Internet: russell@zeus.unl.edu Campus Computing | Bitnet: russell@unoma1 University of Nebraska at Omaha | UUCP: uunet!zeus.unl.edu!russell ---------------------------------+--------------------------------------------

It is semi-deliberate (whatever that means) The actions of the UPDATE command are to free off the entire memory array and re-map memory from the file. In doing so the displayed attribute of each newsgroup is lost. I'll see what can be done with this cause it is logically a bug. While I'm writing to the list, there is some more information about versions of NEWS: NEWS V5.8B will NOT be coming out. I have been working on including personal MAIL into news (after all mail folders and newsgroups are pretty similar). V5.9 will be released in a few weeks which will include the commands OPEN/MAIL and CLOSE/MAIL which will allow NEWS to be used as a mail user agent (with a set of additional commands to manage your mail file).
