Its no coincidence that the node name is truncated at 8 chars - that was a
rather insidious remnant from an earlier attempt to extend the length of node
names from DECnet's 6 to a more realistic length - unfortunately I missed a
declaration.

The problem was posted to me some time ago and the fix is in the 5.9 program.
I've forgotten exactly where the declaration was located, but I'll look it up
if you wish
