[news.software.anu-news] NEWS displays in a file?

SYSNET@cc.nu.oz (David Morrison) (08/03/89)

Is there a way to run NEWS in a batch job or as a command file and get all the
output in a file?

I have been trying to do this recently, with the following results:

>$news/noscreen dir

and

There appear to be two problems: Only the first seven characters of each line
are retained, and secondly, the program still pages the output, even though
there is no need to.

Is this behaviour a bug? A feature? A suggestion for a future version?

(I have discovered that I can do the following:
	@tt:/output=file.lis
	news
	show entry *

But... The output is paged, so I have to sit typing RETURN until I think it
has finished. (Nothing appears on the screen so I cannot tell when the output
has finished!) )
