[news.software.anu-news] Diff and Patch on the way

conslt32@ZEUS.UNL.EDU (Tim Russell) (08/04/89)

Hi folks,

Well, patch and diff are working, thanks to help from others. Unfortunately
I inadvertantly deleted a mail message from the person who sent me the copy
of patch that he had with VMS stuff already in it. Please mail me again!

I applied that VMS stuff to a newer version of patch, and got PD-DIFF from
the comp.sources.misc archive. It also had VMS support, but for the DECUS C
compiler, so it needed some fixing.

So, anyway, patch and diff will be posted today. Patch is in 7 parts and
Diff is in four. Hopefully they will get through. People on Bitnet can
mail me for missing parts (but wait a couple of days!) and I will SEND them.
I'm also going to put them up for anonymous FTP on zeus.unl.edu (129.93.1.10)
for people on the internet. UUCP people can mail me for missing parts.
If this catches on, I'm sure the programs will be in the next release of
ANU-NEWS.

See the file HOW-TO-DIFF.TXT in the DIFF posting for information on how
to create diffs. Please note that although I may have written the file
egotistically, discussion is most /definitely/ still open, and I welcome
your comments on the procedure! If people would rather use SLP, fine.
The things that /I/ like about the PATCH-DIFF method are that I am notified
of failed patches, and that patches don't fail very often.

So try it out people, and let's have some discussion.
