Has anyone else been crazy enough to try and compile ANU NEWS (5.9a) with GCC? It is taking quite a bit longer to convert than anticipated. (I have already gotten the objects and executables from kuhub; that's not the point). I have the relevant header files now (UNSDL and homebrew), have rewritten the #include statements, and have now started running into other problems. If you have been working on modifying NEWS to compile under GCC, want to be, or know of another maniac who is, please drop me a note and we can suffer together. I had version 5.7 compiled with GCC and was beginning to work on all the accvio's I was getting when 5.8 came out. I have since abtained VAXC and not put any more effort into GNU. A couple of things to watch for. 1. There is a call to VAXC$ESTABLISH to set up an error handler. I always got an accvio when that was used. I had replaced it with the run time library LIB$ESTABLISH, which I assumed did much the same thing. At least it gave the appearance of the expected results. 2. Some of the headers that came out of UNSDL were missing terminating braces causing all sorts of errors. Warren ================================================================== Warren R.
