[news.software.anu-news] HELP - client to unix site

VSpagnol@massey.ac.nz (Victoria Spagnolo) (12/08/89)

I am trying to bring up ANU NEWS V5.8a on a VAX cluster running VMS 4.7
as a client (end-node) serviced from a UNIX site using NNTP on CMU TCP/IP.
I also do not want, or have the space, to keep the news files on the cluster.

I have succeeded in getting news to create four newsgroups (3 local) and i was
able to post to one of them, junk, and it went to the unix site. But i am not
able to read any news from the unix site. It seems to look only in the news
directory on the cluster for news instead of querying the server. What am i
doing wrong?

I would also appreciate some explainations on the way ANU sends mail around.
It seems to default to mailing news between decnet sites. Since i am not doing
this and, more importantly, i am new to both vms and news, i get easily
confused reading the docs and the config files.

Speaking of the docs, they are distributed in two formats, LaTex and Scribe.
This is really nice but we have neither. Any suggestions?

thanks for all your help and apologies for any stupid questions.
