I got News running thanks to several replies from my appeal to this list.
I hadn't created an actual separate Identifier for NEWS_MGR_ID, and News didn't
seem to like my own UIC Identifier ...
Now for some other questions.
Currently News is adding all of the items for roughly 450 newsgroups from a
server via NNTP [not the physical text, but the headers and titles]. It's
been about 24 hours now, and it's still at it ... even with a VAXstation 3100!
I'm a bit apprehensive about using SKIM to update the datebase if it is going
to take this long every time. What do people recommend for daily updates,
perhaps using something like
SKIM /NODIRECTORIES /NOFILES /NOFILECHECK ???
with a full SKIM on the weekends?
Also, any tips would be greatly appreciated. I've got hold of the 5.8
documentation, and the help library is fairly complete, but I sense there is
more to 5.9c than in the documentation.
