[alt.religion.computers] The Bible by God

pfr654@csc.anu.oz (08/01/90)

G'Day

I am looking for software for a Mac which includes the complete text of the
Bible (no, not the Mac Bible, the real Christian one!).

I thought there were a few companies which offered this sort of thing but
only find one in the back of MacWorld: Bible Research Systems in Austin,
Texas. If anyone has experience with what they offer ("THE WORD processor",
and "Verse Search") I would appreciate hearing their experiences.

I already have the Mac, but if you know of a great program for Bible
study/referencing etc on another computer, please let me know.

Please email replies and I will post a summary to comp.sys.mac.wanted and
possibly cross-post to alt.religion.computers.

(There is a problem with posting solutions in the "wanted" newsgroups: they
are no longer "wanted"; but I think that that is what Chuq wants us to do)

Just over a year and a half ago I was talking with the developers of
GodSpeed (a verse search and cross ref utility) and they said at that
time that they were working on a Mac version. I do not know if the
Mac version was ever completed though. Their PC version is quite good,
though simple and rather expensive. If you want their address please
contact me and I'll try to look it up.

Au revoir,

Software Excitement! sells a stack that has the bible in it. (It doesn't
say what version.) Requires at least a Mac+, hypercard and 5 Meg disk
space. (It comes on 4 disks.)

Price would be $28 + $3 packing and handling, plus $3 for 2nd day air,
or $2 for shipping to Canada, or $4 for shipping to a foreign
country.

Order disks 2830-2833

I have no connection with Software Excitement!, and for all I know
they are total scum who sell shareware with 'Not For Commercial Sale'
written all over it, or they might be good guys. Just to be
on the safe side, check the Bible stack for reversed satanic
messages before using. [[Oh yeah, when you read it backwards,
you find the reversed Lord's Prayer, which is a well known
way to summon Satan.]]

Caveat Emptor.

(This is only vaguely related...) I think that a bible should be standard
on UNIX and other major operating systems. Just think of the hassle
it would save on all those computer-based discussions on "what
the bible actually says". Jeez, just *grep* out sodom/right to life/666
et al... :-)
