#N:uicsovax:11500002:000:1152 uicsovax!delong Jul 31 16:13:00 1982 I'm at ground zero regarding networking concepts. I need some help in being pointed in the right direction. I usually find it helpful to learn about 100 words and the jargon of the field, then search for ten or 15 articles directed to the engineering manager. However, my usual sources can't recommend a starting point for me. Next year, I will be implementing 3 systems and I would like to tie them together in some way. Two of the systems will be within 100 miles while the other will be several hundred miles away. I would like to establish a procedure so that development on one machine could be transmitted to the others. In addition, I would like to implement a minimal notesfile system(say less than 10 notesfiles). Based upon this need, I need to bring myself up to speed with some elementary concepts, available systems and costs, and terminology. The systems will be procured from a vendor so I must be able to specify what I want. Please no vendors recommendation, I am only looking to increase my knowledge right now. Thanks in advance. Carl E.
