[alt.sources.d] spew compilation problem.

jopsy@naucse.UUCP (JO.hn P.hillip C.rane) (08/06/89)

   For some reason, when I unshared the 'spew' program found in alt.sources
the vertical bar characters were removed. This was a slight problem on
two lines in spew.c.

#define VBAR ''

should be

#define VBAR '|'

and later on a file/decompression check a || needs to be inserted in a
rather obvious spot. (for those that know anything about C)

The other problem, lies in the 'headline' data file. It seems the vertical
bars are missing from there as well, causing all sorts of ugliness when
the program tries to produce output. (I.E. bad pluralizations and suffixes,
if any).

  If someone received this program, with proper vertbarization, could they
please mail me the correct 'headline' file?

                                         Thanx in advance!

  [two corrections deleted]

It arrived here without vertical bars too. I sent e-mail about it to the
original poster, but maybe it didn't get there.

I too would like a correct copy of the headline data file.

The head lines are funny.

Please post/e-mail the diffs/patch if you have successfully compiled
spew under Xenix.

Thanks,
Larry Dighera

I got the same annoying things. Perhaps it ought to be reposted when it is
fixed. That could save the author having to mail a lot of stuff.

	Apparently one of the backbone sites had a
	temporary shortage of "|" characters, so it
	had to borrow them from some News files.
	Unfortunately the files were propogated before
	the "|" characters were returned, so we now
	have this problem.
	I understand that a file containing the proper
	number of "|" characters is being sent out.
	When you receive it, just restore each "|" to
	its proper place in the affected files, and all
	will be well again.

Cheers,
