The recent gettime posting unshars as follows: -rw-r--r-- 1 sean 12488 Nov 20 16:32 COPYING -rw-r--r-- 1 sean 465 Nov 20 16:32 Makefile -rw-r--r-- 1 sean 719 Nov 20 16:32 README -rw-r--r-- 1 sean 3593 Nov 20 16:32 gettime.c Isn't this kind of ridiculous? We probably already have 50 copies of the GPL on our system, and now people are posting programs where the posting is 2/3 GPL and 1/3 source. Everyone that contributes sources is appreciated!!! But cmon, you don't have to include the GPL with everything. If you insist on publishing software under GNUs terms, just say that it's redistributable under the terms of the GPL. [Begin political statement] Better yet, make your source public domain, and allow everyone to advance the state of the art in software. [End political statement] Sean -- *** Sean Casey sean@ms.uky.edu, sean@ukma.bitnet, ukma!sean *** Copyright 1989 by Sean Casey. Only non-profit redistribution permitted. *** "If you'll go to Joe B's, I'll buy. How's that sound?" "Sounds free!"

Sean Casey prvoides an alternative to the GNU copyleft: > Better yet, make your source public domain, and allow everyone to advance > the state of the art in software. But then writes: > *** Copyright 1989 by Sean Casey. Only non-profit redistribution permitted. This is some kind of gag, right?

I agree completely with your sentiments, if not your words. Next thing people will be copyrighting the word "the". We've already had trademark suits over "the initial letter Z", and "the trailing portion of a name being Land", not to mention "the beginning portion of a name relating to a {computer,fast_food} product being Mac".
