I've hit the problem in DOS 3.3, as well. The same problem occurs if you
unlink an open file. The result will be that the clusters belonging to
that file will be lost.

<sigh!>

Someday, I'll have a Unix box and can leave this DOS-stress behind.

Good advice, but I'm afraid you may be too late.  By now there must be
10's of millions of people using MS-DOS.
