cat>v00.00:header<<{EOT} The Sytek LocalNet Digest Volume 00 Number 00 March 30, 1983 ---------- Moderator: Randy King (we13!rjk) Mail comments and items for publication to we13!rjk Through machines 'ihnp4', 'we53', 'lime', 'otuxa', 'burl' ---------- {EOT} cat>v00.00:t-o-c<<{EOT} Topics in this issue (vol 00 num 00) - Description of the digest format (Format) Sytek User's Meeting in California (v00.00:usrmtg) Sytek, General Instrument & Intel joint venture (v00.00:venture) A mailing list of interested Sytek users (Mailist) ---------- {EOT} cat>Format<<{EOT} You probably noticed the embedded shell commands in this digest. As you might have guessed, this will allow folks to un-digestify (regurgitate?) the contents of this digest into separate files. The filenames appear at the end of each line in the table of contents. Items of general interest to the digest will have 1-14 character filenames, with a leading CAPITAL to force it to the front of a listing. Items specific to the particular version/volume will be prefixed with an identifier like "v00.00:". To use this feature, save the article in your favorite LAN Digest directory with the "s" command, then later type "sh article" on the saved article. With luck and a working shell, you will be left with some files that you can do with what you like. To save disk space, you are admonished to remove the original article after regurgitation. ---------- {EOT} cat>v00.00:usrmtg<<{EOT} Most of the following is plagiarized from a letter addressed to me (rjk) from Dick Cogger at Cornell University. Many of you may have already seen this letter. If not, please contact Dick at the address below. The first meeting of the "Sytek Network User's Group" will be held in Mountain View, California on June 5-8, 1983. An organizing committee was formed, consisting of seven members: Dick Cogger of Cornell University (chairman), Scott Lathrop of the University of Illinois, Jeff Lederer of Gulf Oil, Tom Madron of North Texas State University, Dennis Nicols of the University of Wisconsin, Bill Shipp of Brown University, and Scott Spielman of Sytek. The agenda for the meeting looks great, with loads of interesting topics, presentations, and a tour of the Sytek facility. The organizing committee has obviously worked had on the project - it will be a meeting that shouldn't be missed. For a complete package of information: Mr. Richard Cogger Cornell University Office of Computer Services Langmuir Laboratory Itaca, New York 14853 ---------- {EOT} cat>v00.00:venture<<{EOT} The following comes from Electronic News magazine, as typed by Genny Johnson (mhuxh!rdlib) for the bell.compete newsgroup. "Sytek, General Instrument and Intel have agreed to work jointly on the design of a VLSI-based communications controller circuit for broadband local area networks using carrier sense multiple access with collision detection (CSMA/CD) techniques." Electronic News,3/28/83,p20 ---------- {EOT} cat>Mailist<<{EOT} This list of users comes to you completely unsorted, with all USENET addresses referenced to site "we13". As you may note, a good many of the addresses contain site "harpo" which, as discussed, has been getting overworked. I welcome all corrections, deletions, and additions to this list, as well as alternate path specifications. - rjk Jay LePreau University of Utah Salt Lake City, Utah <we13>!harpo!utah-cs!lepreau Mike Burke Bell Labs Whippany, New Jersey <we13>!harpo!meb Tom Talpey Brown University Providence, Rhode Island <we13>!harpo!decvax!brunix!tmt Dennis Nichols University of Wisconsin Madison, Wisconsin <we13>!harpo!seismo!uwvax!djn Paul Killey University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Michigan <we13>!ll1!sb1!mb2b!uofm-cv!paul Jeff Mulick Tektronix, Inc.
